AI & Social Media, What is the Impact?

With AI tools being more prevalent as time goes on, there is a lot of noise surrounding the ‘perks’ of AI and how it will ‘take jobs’.

However, what if I told you that as an author you have nothing to worry about when it comes to AI & social media. Sure, AI tools can help with generating content ideas, however, you’re the one that knows your readership and knows who you are as a brand.

Even in 2024, social media promotes human to human interaction to generate authentic connections, as spoken in previous blog posts, algorithms are favouring those who consciously make an effort to connect and extend their community and audience further. As a reminder, your audience craves authenticity and content they can relate to, today it is easier than ever to filter out the content that is forced and unauthentic. Due to the promotion of authentic work, Meta platforms have now included a ‘Made with AI’ label for users to add whenever a post has been manipulated by AI, ensuring their audience are aware of the AI use.

In relation to the above points, your audience have followed you for a reason and you have created content that resonated with them for a reason. AI doesn’t have the capacity to understand you as an author, let alone your created audience. The various AI tools are designed to generate results that are general to your prompt, it hasn’t developed to understand every nook and cranny of every online audience.

Despite the previous points, one way AI can work in your favour is when coming up with general content ideas or when used correctly, it can ease the burden of your workload on social media, such as generating images for you or basic updates about the algorithm and how things will work. However, remember to keep these results in mind with a grain of salt. I have found it useful in some circumstances, but only in very general use cases. Also, you’re the writer not them…

Sure AI, one day, will be strong enough to make an impact on social media but for now there is nothing to worry about. Social media prefers authentic community building through human interaction and AI is there to work alongside you when needed.
